A group of teaching staff members of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy has successfully completed the "Medical Emergencies. Basic Concept" (Basic Emergency Care Provider Course), held at the University Center for Simulation in Medical Training during November 26-29, 2024.
The course covered a number of essential methodologies, including the ACBCDE (Airway, Cervical, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) algorithm, primary assessment and resuscitation of the critically injured patient, management of dyspnea, trauma, shock, unconsciousness, as well as patient transfer and pickup.
The first vice-rector Olga Cernetchi, vice-rector for didactic activity and academic management, mentioned that the participation of the departments illustrated an excellent collaboration that allowed the integration of knowledge and experience with clinical practice, a fact that would contribute to the continuous development of the curriculum, thus making it possible for the teaching methods and course content to be up-to-date and relevant. The professor has expressed her belief that the acquired skills will be transferred by the participants to the didactic and clinical activity, and in the future it is planned to hold these courses for other groups of people.
The course participants represented Gheorghe Ciobanu Department of Medical Emergencies, Natalia Gheorghiu Department of Surgery, Orthopedics and Pediatric Anesthesiology, the Discipline of Cardiology, the Discipline of Pneumology and Allergology and the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In the opinion of Silvia Filimon, university assistant in the Cardiology Discipline, the course is a beneficial one, representing basic support for various emergency situations, for example providing first aid on the scene of an accident to an unconscious person, with convulsions, burns, etc. "In addition to the theoretical material, we discussed clinical cases and carried out practical tasks, which included examining the patient, providing first aid when necessary and transporting to the Emergency Department," she added.
The training was organized by the World Health Organization with representation in Moldova, at the initiative of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova and Nicolae Testemitanu University, with the financial support of the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration within the US State Department, in the context of the refugee crisis in Ukraine and under the European Union project "EU4Moldova: Building a sustainable health system".
