Morphological Block of ”Nicolae Testemitanu” University has been completely renovated and modernized

Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova reopened the Morphological Block, after major overhaul, on the first day of studies of the 2nd semester. The event took place on February 3, 2025, with the participation of representatives of the University management, teaching and scientific-didactic staff, and students.

In his opening remarks, Rector Emil Ceban emphasized that the strategic objective of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy resided in ensuring the quality of the training process of professionals with higher education for the national health system. "When we talk about the quality of specialist training, we refer to the quality of study programs, the level of competence of the teaching and scientific-didactic staff and, last but not least, the optimal conditions and resources required for conducting medical training," the Rector emphasized.

University Professor Ilia Catereniuc, head of the Department of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy, stated that the major reconstruction of the Morphological Block represented an example of teaching space renovation carried out by the University management.

On behalf of the study beneficiaries, Loredana Burda, a second-year student at the Faculty of Medicine No. 1, specified: "The morphological block is the place where we develop as future doctors, where we discover the secrets of anatomy and histology, and lay the foundations for our medical careers. The fact that the University continuously invests in our education shows us that the future of medicine is a priority. It is our duty to appreciate what we have and capitalize on all the opportunities offered to us within our university, to subsequently create a better future for the country’s medical system."

The reconstruction of the Morphological Block began in July 2023. The building underwent complex works of resistance structure strengthening. Ventilation, air conditioning and air filtration systems were put in place, thus creating a healthier and more comfortable environment for students and teachers. The building was equipped with a fire-fighting system and a video surveillance system. The heating, electrical, water supply and sewage networks were fully replaced. The building's facade was also completely renovated, including thermal insulation. The four-story block is provided with two elevators, and a locker room for 450 people was arranged in the basement.

The Morphological Block houses the Department of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy, the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, the Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Cell Cultures and the Museum of Human Anatomy. All the study rooms have been equipped with new furniture and high-performance computing equipment; a 94-seat auditorium has been renovated on the third floor.

At the same time, a new modern study room was created and endowed with state-of-the-art equipment for studying human anatomy - the Anatomage Table EDU 10.0 anatomical table. It provides a three-dimensional representation of the human body in real size, which will help students learn human anatomy in a dynamic and interactive way.

The total cost of the Morphological Block reconstruction, including its furnishing, is estimated at about 66 million lei.

The morphological block was built in the 1960s, when Nicolae Testemitanu was rector of the Chisinau State Institute of Medicine (currently Nicolae Testemitanu State Medical University) and was put into operation in 1964. Initially, four specialized departments were located here. Over the years, the building was only subjected to current repair, without interfering with the resistance structure. As a result of long-term exploitation, the block reached a high degree of wear, which is why it was decided to carry out its overhaul.
