About 700 specialists from the country and abroad gathered at the first edition of "Pediatrics without borders" conference

The first edition of the international conference "Pediatrics without Borders" brought together about 700 participants, pediatricians, neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, researchers and resident physicians from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, the United States of America and the United Arab Emirates, with the aim of developing common diagnostic and treatment strategies, as well as creating a support network between medical institutions on both banks of the Prut River.
The scientific event took place on May 30 and 31, 2025 and was organized by Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in partnership with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM), the Institute of Mother and Child, Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest and Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iasi, Romania.
The event was moderated by academician Eva Gudumac, University Professor at Natalia Gheorghiu Department of Pediatric Surgery, Orthopedics and Anesthesiology.
In the opening, Svetlana Nicolaescu, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, noted that "the relevant scientific event brings together excellence in research, medical practice and international collaboration in the field of child health". The official reiterated the authority's commitment to maternal and child health as a national priority. "The path of accession to the European Union represents both a responsibility and a major opportunity. In the field of child health, this process involves aligning with European standards in terms of the quality of medical services, patient safety, children's rights and equity in access to innovative treatments. In this context, scientific cooperation and the exchange of good practices play an essential role in improving the health system", concluded Svetlana Nicolaescu.
Academician Ion Tighineanu, President of the ASM, emphasized the importance of the conference for young specialists, who could learn from the experience of specialists in the field of medicine. The academician also highlighted the international collaborations of Nicolae Testemitanu University graduates, many of whom work in foreign institutions, which reflects a pan-European approach to excellence in medicine.
The rector of Nicolae Testemitanu University, Professor Emil Ceban, noted that "it is significant that this conference is organized on the eve of the World Children's Day and the Professional Day of the Medical Worker and Pharmacist". The rector also noted the multidisciplinary nature of the conference, the participation of international specialists and experts, as well as young specialists, students and resident doctors. In this context, Professor Ceban encouraged the participants to come up with new ideas and innovative visions for the treatment of pediatric conditions, wishing them success in their endeavors.
In turn, Professor Svetlana Sciuca, Head of the Pneumology Clinic within the Pediatrics Department of Nicolae Testemitanu University, expressed gratitude to the University's leadership for the efforts made in educating generations of well-trained doctors. She emphasized the significance of the presence of both enthusiastic young people and experienced professionals, united by the desire to contribute to children's health, considered the foundation of a prosperous future for the Republic of Moldova.
"I support the idea of pediatrics without borders. It is a two-way communication, we learn from each other," said the guest of honor of the conference Sebastian Ionescu, professor at the Department of Pediatric Surgery and Orthopedics, Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The Romanian professor noted the close collaboration, established over the years between specialists from Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The program of the scientific event included plenary sessions, discussions, workshops and poster presentations on the following topics: pediatric surgery in child healthcare, child morbidity and infections - priorities of contemporary pediatrics, congenital and hereditary diseases of children - current events in medical conduct, pediatric surgery - endoscopic techniques in diagnosis and treatment, pediatric emergencies in child healthcare, etc.
The conference was organized in the context of the 80th anniversary of the founding of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, being credited with EMC.
