Exchange of experience during the Annual Conference of Ophthalmologists from Moldova

About 120 participants, students from the Optometry undergraduate program, residents from the Ophthalmology specialty, ophthalmologists, optometrists and other visual health care professionals, gathered at the Annual Conference of Ophthalmologists of Moldova, with international participation. The scientific event took place on September 26 and 27, 2025, in a mixed format.

The conference was inaugurated by Professor Eugen Bendelic, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, who mentioned that the scientific event was part of the series of events organized in the context of the 80th anniversary of the founding of Alma Mater. "The event brings together local and foreign specialists, who will share the latest research, diagnostic methods and therapeutic solutions for clearer vision and a healthier future. The program includes scientific sessions, presentations of clinical cases and recent research, debates on current topics in the field of ophthalmology and optometry, news in the field of the ocular surface, ophthalmic surgery, imaging and medical therapy."

Associate Professor Ala Paduca, president of the Association of Contactology and Ocular Surface Diseases of the Republic of Moldova, has urged participants to actively participate in the conference, noting that the scientific event represents a platform for the exchange of valuable ideas and experiences. 

The conference's guests of honor were professors Camelia Bogdanici from Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi and Adriana Stanila from Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu, Romania.

The conference was attended by Hugo Peña Verdeal, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Optometry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, who delivered a lecture on “Refractive and biometric outcomes with Aspheric vs. EDOF contact lenses in pediatric myopia control: a 12-month randomized trial” and a workshop on “Corneal RGP Contact Lenses Made Simple: Basic Principles and Hands-On Practice”. On the second day of the event, the guest of honor held a course on “Dry eye disease: assessment using a simple clinical diagnostic algorithm”.

The topics addressed in the scientific forum were: Protection of the ocular surface; Physiological changes in retinal circulation in different phases of the menstrual cycle; Cell transplantation in ophthalmology; Surgical approach to facial burns; Orbital involvement in facial bone fractures. Clinical and therapeutic considerations; Retinal vascular accident - from diagnosis and acute treatment to stroke prevention; Ophthalmic impact of carotid cavernous fistula: clinical case; Wilson's disease: from systemic complexity to ophthalmological relevance; Formizor and glyhat in ophthalmological practice; NSAIDs and corticosteroids in corneal pathology, etc.

The conference was organized by the Department of Ophthalmology, in partnership with the Association of Ophthalmologists from Moldova and the Association of Contactology and Ocular Surface Diseases.
