"Moldova Optometry Day" symposium

Representatives of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, students from the Optometry undergraduate program and students from the Clinical Optometry master's program, young optometrists and ophthalmologists met at the symposium "Moldova Optometry Day". The event took place on March 19, 2024, on World Optometry Day.

The scientific event was inaugurated by Lilia Dumbraveanu, head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, who congratulated the students for choosing a noble profession: "Six years ago, for the first time, the first students of the Optometry specialty walked through our door, and we started training in a new field. Today we are already enjoying the fruitful results of the 38 graduates, and in June we will have the fourth class that graduates."

For her part, Rodica Bilba, Assistant Professor at the department, emphasized that "the theme of the World Optometry Day this year is "Advancing Optometry's Commitment to Global Eye Care" and resonates with the mission of the optometry service in the Republic of Moldova to improve the quality services and make them more accessible. I urge you to get actively involved in achieving these goals.”

During the forum, a series of topics were discussed, such as the role of the optometrist in quality medical services, the development of practical skills in the complete examination of the functional aspects of vision, etc.

The symposium was organized by the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry of Nicolae Testemitanu University in collaboration with the Society of Orthokeratology and Myopia Management from the Republic of Moldova.
