Pharmacists from all over the country gathered in Chisinau for the first scientific conference entitled "Clinical Pharmacy – Challenges and Perspectives", an event with international participation organized by the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova. The scientific forum was dedicated to Professor Sava Nicolai – founder of the didactic subdivision and promoter of national clinical pharmacy.
Associate Professor Jana Chihai, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, emphasized that Professor Sava Nicolai was and would remain an emblematic personality of the academic community and a model of professional dedication. "Through this conference, we reconstruct, through science and academic memory, the portrait of the distinguished professor who trained entire generations. Mentor Sava Nicolai remains a resonant name for the Republic of Moldova - a dedicated teacher, visionary researcher and exceptional trainer. Through his activity at the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, which he led with responsibility and vision, he contributed decisively to the development of pharmaceutical education in the country. Over 150 scientific works, textbooks, monographs and practical guides constitute a valuable legacy that continues to inspire and train current generations," the vice-rector emphasized. Regarding academic meetings, Associate Professor Jana Chihai emphasized their importance in promoting interdisciplinary dialogue, sharing good practices and relevant experiences, strengthening collaboration networks, and training specialists capable of responding to the complex challenges of public health systems.
According to Associate Professor Marcel Abras, Vice-Rector for Clinical Activity Management, such events are a good opportunity to identify new scientific directions and set priorities for the next activity. At the same time, the Vice-Rector highlighted the importance of aligning the processes in the field of pharmacy and pharmacology in the Republic of Moldova with the standards of the European Union – a country objective at this time. "The objectives set then remain relevant today. In turn, we have a duty to continue these ideas and initiate new directions for the development of pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova", the Vice-Rector concluded.
In the opinion of Livia Uncu, dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy of "Nicolae Testemitanu" University, the first clinical pharmacy conference has a promising and auspicious beginning for the development of the field. The dean emphasized that professors Sava Nicolai and Vasile Procopisin had already intuited the role of clinical pharmacy. "I witnessed the moment when this idea was taking shape. In the 90s, when professor Procopisin came up with this concept, it seemed very bold, and he also said: The time will come when the pharmacist will work together with the doctor at the patient's bedside. At that time, it seemed like utopia, but today we have this reality," mentioned Livia Uncu. In the same vein, the dean emphasized that Professor Sava Nicolai is alive in the memory of his loved ones and disciples. Through his deeds, through his textbooks, books, monographs and coordinated doctoral theses, he laid the foundations of clinical pharmacy. The initiated activity was continued by his disciples, and the results are currently seen through the constant development of the field.
Associate Professor Corina Scutari, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, mentioned at the opening of the event that the scientific forum – conceived as a constructive dialogue – would address the current state of clinical pharmacy in the Republic of Moldova, modern methods of education, as well as the actions necessary for the development of this field in modern medicine and pharmacy. "We want this conference to be a celebration of knowledge, collaboration and continuity", the head of the department emphasized.
The conference was attended by guests from academic centers in Romania, the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, and the Republic of Moldova. Participants presented current scientific results, exchanged experiences, and discussed modern trends, innovative solutions, and development directions in clinical pharmacy.
The event is part of the series of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of "Nicolae Testemitanu" University.
