Three teams of young people enthusiastic about medicine and technology, concerned with Life Science, won the first stage of the largest HealthTech Hackathon in the Republic of Moldova. The online activity took place between June 25-27, 2021, and was organized, for the first time, by Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in collaboration with TEKWILL Startup Moldova, FRESHBLOOD HUB from Romania, with the support of USAID and the Government of Sweden.
The HealthTech Hackathon was attended by over 80 people from medicine and information technology areas, who formed 10 teams (Fastboss, MyID, OMG! WellBeing!, HeroDoc, Pharmec, IntoAction, Medplatform, TelemedPrevetion, CorlabTech, KeepMyChildSafe), which have submitted medical system digital solution projects.
The teams were assisted by expert mentors from academia and the private sector, which guided and offered them advice in the project development process.
The proposed digital solutions meet several evaluation criteria such as: problem and impact, execution and design, originality, feasibility and business model. At the end of 3 days of activity, the teams presented their prototypes and were appreciated, from a distance, by a mixed jury, consisting of specialists from related fields of activity.
Academician Stanislav Groppa, Vice-Rector for Research Activity at Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy has mentioned, at the end of the event, their "exceptional" performance, as the 10 teams demonstrated major involvement, offering important solutions with well-targeted strategies for the digitalization of the health system. We tried to offer them some advice and guidance through the involvement of mentors – specialists and valuable experts in medicine. We congratulate the winning teams and, at the same time, we encourage everyone not to give up on their ideas, because there are many funding opportunities. In the end, everyone has to gain from this Hackathon", underlined the vice-rector Groppa.
The finalist teams are:
CorlabTech, which proposed a digital application that would allow the investigation and evaluation of Parkinson's disease and got the first place;
KeepMyChildSafe, which submitted the design of a digital application, which would allow monitoring the health of children under 5 years of age, with various alerting indicators, and got the 2nd place;
HeroDoc, which proposed a digital application that allows scheduling an appointment with a doctor online and got 3rd place.
The winning teams will benefit from 3 months of accelerated training offered by international partners from Romania, with a view to improving the solutions proposed at the first stage of Hackathon. At the end of this period, one of them will receive the grand prize of 5,000 Euros.
