Summer school of gastroenterology and hepatology, 7th edition

About 150 specialists in the field of internal medicine - gastroenterologists, hepatologists, internists and other specialists from the country’s medical institutions gathered in Chisinau at the Summer School of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the Republic of Moldova, on June 16 and 17, 2023. Among the topics addressed during the event were: news in the pathology of the upper digestive tract, the treatment of intestinal pathologies, biliary tract dysfunctions, intestinal microbiota, the role of hepatoprotectors in the therapy of liver diseases. Doctors who attended the event were informed about the application of new diagnostic methods in gastroenterology: echoendoscopy and high-resolution esophageal manometry - high-performance methods already accessible in the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, during the Summer School, an interdisciplinary course dedicated to the International Day of Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis, moderated by Associate Professor Angela Peltec, was held with the generic title "Management of fatty liver disease at different levels of healthcare: from primary healthcare to liver transplantation".
This year a pilot project was implemented at the level of primary medicine to find out the level of knowledge of family doctors in the screening of fatty liver disease. In this context, Associate Professor Virginia Salaru, family doctor, highlighted important aspects in managing the treatment of patients with this diagnosis. During the course, the issue of macro- and microvesicular hepatic steatosis was also tackled in a multidisciplinary perspective.
The event was attended by guests from Romania - Prof. Dr. Vladislav Brasoveanu, transplant surgeon, and Dr. Gabriela Smira from the Fundeni Clinical Institute in Bucharest, who presented valuable information about hepatic steatosis from the perspective of the transplant gastroenterologists.
"It is an event of great importance for the community of gastroenterologists, hepatologists, surgeons, family doctors, and internal medicine specialists. We exchange experience, discuss clinical guidelines and protocols in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology, which have appeared during the last year. It is already a tradition to gather, year after year, during the Summer School", said university professor Eugen Tcaciuc, head of the Gastroenterology Discipline within the Department of Internal Medicine and president of the Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the Republic of Moldova.
The gastroenterology and hepatology summer school represents an opportunity and a platform for communication and transfer of knowledge and best practices to improve the medical services provided to patients. The scientific event was organized by the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Society of the Republic of Moldova, the Gastroenterology Discipline, the Department of Internal Medicine, and the Gastroenterology Laboratory of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
