About 250 participants ‒ local and foreign gastroenterologists, internists, family doctors, representatives of the academic and scientific environment, as well as resident doctors and students ‒ met during the 5th National Congress of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with international participation.
The event was inaugurated by the rector of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, professor Emil Ceban, the president of the Congress - professor Eugen Tcaciuc, head of the Gastroenterology Discipline, Department of Internal Medicine, president of the Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the Republic of Moldova, and guests from Romania - professors Cristina Cijevschi-Prelipcean, Ioan Sporea and Dan Dumitrascu.
"It is well known that digestive diseases, including liver diseases, are the cause of the decrease in the quality of life and social status of a large number of people in our country, and mortality due to liver diseases ranks 3rd in the general structure of mortality. Therefore, the topics envisaged for discussion in this forum are not only of scientific-practical medical interest, but also of significant social importance. I am convinced that the exchange of information and best practices between scientists, young researchers, and doctors of various specialties from the entire country, as well as the transfer of knowledge from representatives of well-known clinics in the world, will open new opportunities in solving pressing problems related to people's life and health, including through the prophylaxis and effective treatment of liver and digestive diseases", rector Ceban mentioned.
President of the Congress Eugen Tcaciuc emphasized that the meeting of professional doctors, for the fifth consecutive year, confirms the availability of the medical society to address current problems, to carry out the constructive exchange of knowledge and experience accumulated over the years. "The mission of the Congress consists in familiarizing specialists with the new trends and challenges in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology, ultrasound and endoscopy, as well as the opportunity to listen to well-known personalities from local and international medicine", Professor Tcaciuc stated.
Professor Dan Dumitrascu was impressed by the good organization of the Congress, but also by the large number of participants interested in the issues of gastroenterology and endoscopy, noting that, as Doctor Honoris Causa of Nicolae Testemitanu University, he would continue to support the partnership with the Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Chisinau, through joint research projects and exchange of experience in the field.
The work of the scientific forum took place in several sections in the form of oral presentations, round tables and workshops with Hands-On education in abdominal ultrasound and digestive endoscopy, in Romanian and English.
The Congress program also included a postgraduate course with the generic title How to improve the management of digestive diseases, developed by the United European Gastroenterology, organized under the auspices of the European Association for Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Nutrition (EAGEN).
The scientific event brought together speakers and experts from Romania, Poland, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Macedonia, Serbia, Belgium, Croatia, Italy and the Republic of Moldova.
The Congress was organized by the Gastroenterology Discipline and the Gastroenterology Laboratory within Nicolae Testemitanu University in collaboration with the Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology from the Republic of Moldova and EAGEN.
