Young people admitted to the first year of studies at „Nicolae Testemitanu” University took the student oath

More than 1,200 young people were welcomed into the big family of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova, as protagonists of the Welcome Ceremony organized on September 1, 2024 at Nicolae Sulac National Palace.
The celebration was inaugurated by Rector Emil Ceban, who spoke to the young people about the significance of the chosen profession, the values that guide the activity of the institution and the teaching staff, the visibility of the University in the country and abroad, the excellent study and living conditions. Professor Ceban emphasized the fact that, this year, 14 of the 57 young people who obtained straight As at the baccalaureate chose to study at Nicolae Testemitanu University.
"Today you enter a new stage of life, you step into an enigmatic and extremely exciting world of knowledge in the field of health, towards the noble goal of becoming the exponents of the most humane and indispensable profession, which in all times has ensured people's life and health, regardless of social and political status, race and religious affiliation. The doctor is a person endowed with thorough knowledge and practical skills, selflessness, devotion, initiative and sacrifice, empathy, vigilance and unconditional love for people. I am sure that you - the new generation of students - will become worthy representatives of Alma Mater. May your path of learning medical specialties be marked by academic achievements, and may each academic year bring you closer to the final goal of becoming valuable specialists for the national health system and finding your purpose in life here at home. Our country needs competent specialists in all fields, especially in the health area", the rector said.
In the end, Professor Emil Ceban reiterated the aspiration of the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union, encouraging young people to participate in the constitutional referendum on October 20, 2024, to express their will to live in a democratic, free, peaceful and prosperous world in the united European family.
Associate Professor Sanda Buruiana and Professor Oleg Pascal came with congratulatory messages to the students and handed them the white coat together with other symbols of medicine - the stethoscope and the scalpel, while the sixth year students – the student's oath and the flame of knowledge to be kept sacred and passed on to future generations of medical students.
Traditionally, young people solemnly recited the Student Oath, through which they pledged to respect university values and traditions, to work hard to get good results, to respect their teachers and colleagues and to become valuable specialists.
Health Minister Ala Nemerenco spoke to the students about the unseen side of the medical profession: "This specialty offers something divine. We are the ones who can really do miracles. We are indispensable to our society because human health and life is the most important thing. The chosen path is one with many challenges, with continuous study, sleepless nights, because the educational system in medicine is very different from traditional educational systems. Along the way you will have serious exams to take and I urge you to study very diligently, because later you will only be able to rely on the abilities and practical skills you have gained during your studies".
The health official emphasized that the profession of doctor and pharmacist requires some very important elements such as moral values, the discipline to learn and make quick decisions, the perseverance to study throughout the entire life.
University Professor Adrian Belii, the president of the Parliamentary Commission for Social Protection, Health and Family, encouraged the students to think freely and feel the joy of knowledge, because the field of health is a very interesting one, which offers many opportunities for personal and professional achievements. "I am glad to see so many beautiful faces, eager for knowledge, who will contribute to our country’s advancing towards the EU. We will definitely have a change of generations and it is very important that this vector is preserved, and this sometimes also depends on elements such as values, attitudes and actions. Be active, be free, be persistent and then the whole world will be yours!", the deputy urged them.
For his part, Gheorghe Buruiana, President of the Association of Medical Students and Residents, assured the students of his team's support in their development as professionals and described the multiple opportunities offered by the organization membership.
In total, this year, 1266 young people passed the Nicolae Testemitanu University entrance exam, of which 1183 were admitted to higher undergraduate and integrated studies. 745 students were admitted to the Medicine program, 190 -to Stomatology, 84 - to Pharmacy, 52-to Physiokinetotherapy and Rehabilitation, 38 - to Nursing, 27 - to Optometry, 31 - to Radiology and Imaging Technology, and 16 students - to Public Health. 83 persons were admitted to master's degree programs: 27 -to Public Health Management, 13 - to Human Nutrition, 16 -to Public Mental Health, 5 - to Molecular Technologies in Health, 6 - to Clinical Optometry, 14 - to Advanced Nursing, and 2 - to Early Childhood Intervention.
