World HIV/AIDS Day

"Equalize" is the slogan of this year's World HIV/AIDS Day, marked annually on 1 December. In this context, the World Health Organization calls on global leaders and citizens to recognize and address the inequities that hinder progress in eliminating acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and equalizing access to essential human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) services, especially for children and risk groups.
In the Republic of Moldova, activities aimed at informing the population and mobilizing the efforts of all responsible parties and communities in the response to HIV infection will take place between 1-21 December 2022, within the "Just TEST" social campaign.
They will be oriented towards:
Promoting HIV testing for the general population and groups at increased risk of infection, as well as the access for war refugees.
Mobilizing the general population and opinion leaders to promote the "Just TEST" social campaign.
Promoting the benefits of antiretroviral treatment (ART), encouraging HIV-positive people to initiate and maintain ART.
Mobilization of community representatives in carrying out advocacy activities.
Reducing the level of discrimination against people living with HIV and other key and vulnerable populations.
According to the National Public Health Agency, in order to prevent the transmission of HIV infection, numerous prevention activities are implemented in the Republic of Moldova. Thanks to the considerable resources provided by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, prevention services were provided to 23,658 people from groups at increased risk of infection in the first half of the current year.
According to statistical data, on 1 January 2022, a total of 15, 128 cases of HIV infection were registered. Between January and October 2022, 753 new cases of HIV infection were confirmed, of which 128 cases were in the eastern districts of the country. The majority of persons diagnosed with HIV are sexually active young people of reproductive age, while the homosexual transmission of HIV predominates.
