The new academic year at ”Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova kicked off with a Welcome Ceremony organized for the 1280 young people enrolled in the first year of studies at our university.
The celebration event was inaugurated by First Vice-Rector, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Academic Management, Olga Cernetchi, who addressed the young people with the traditional Welcome to the great international family of Alma Mater.
"Dear students, today you step into an enigmatic and extremely captivating world of knowledge in the field of Health, towards the noble goal of becoming exponents of the most humane and in-demand professions, which at all times have ensured the life and health of people, regardless of social and political status, racial affiliation and religious belief. We are sure that you will become worthy representatives of the Alma Mater. May your path of acquiring medical specialties be accompanied by health, luck, happiness, academic achievements and personal fulfillment, and may each academic year bring you closer to the final goal of becoming valuable specialists for the national health system and finding your purpose in life here, at home", the first vice-rector mentioned.
Further, Professor Olga Cernetchi emphasized that 16 of the 89 young people who got straight “10” in the baccalaureate examination this year chose to study at Nicolae Testemitanu University.
Associate Professor Sanda Buruiana, Dean of the Faculty of Residency, offered the first-year student representatives the symbols of medicine – the white coat and the stethoscope – the defining elements of a doctor. “The white coat is the symbol of purity, nobility, seriousness, wisdom and perseverance, as the impeccable attire emphasizes the moral qualities you possess. Wear your medical coat with care and dignity. Another tool that has remained relevant in medicine today is the old stethoscope – an indispensable gadget in the clinician’s daily work that can withstand all high-tech achievements,” the Associate Professor noted.
In turn, Vice-Rector for Clinical Activity Management Marcel Abras congratulated the young people "for having the courage to realize your dream - that of becoming a student at the most prestigious university of the Republic of Moldova. I am sure that you have chosen it with your heart and mainly with your mind. We live in the era of artificial intelligence, many professions will be taken over by AI or will be restructured, but empathy and care for the patient, minimally invasive and surgical interventions will require well-trained doctors, and Nicolae Testemitanu University provides you with all the conditions to become well-rated specialists both in the country and abroad. The future of medicine is in your hands, and society needs you!"

Traditionally, the young people solemnly recited the Student Oath, through which they pledged to respect university values and traditions, to work diligently towards academic success, to respect their teachers and colleagues, and to become valuable specialists.
