A student hostel of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy was inaugurated, after an overhaul, on September 20. Hostel no. 1 has modern architecture and a capacity of 245 places that were assigned to students from the first two years of studies at the Faculty of Medicine no. 1.
The hostel, built in 1957, was overhauled between April 2022-August 2023. It was extended with another floor and an attic and re-planned from a corridor type into apartments with 2, 3, 4 and 5 rooms. In an apartment, there are rooms for one, two or three people, provided with bathrooms and a kitchen. A reading room with 40 seats and a group study room, endowed with computing equipment (6-8 people), a laundry room and a clothes dryer were also set up. The building was also equipped with two panoramic elevators.
"One of the main objectives of the Strategic Development Plan of Nicolae Testemitanu University is to improve the living conditions for study beneficiaries. Part of the investments allocated to the University's infrastructure are directed to the reconstruction and modernization of hostels. Thus, two years ago, Hostel no. 8, was put into operation after an overhaul, and in the coming years we intend to modernize three more hostels from the Student Campus in the Mălina Mică neighborhood, where a total of 15 hostels are located," said university rector Emil Ceban during the inauguration ceremony.
Vice-rector for social activity Marcel Abraș mentioned that the launch of new study programs, providing classrooms with modern equipment, hiring, and keeping the best teachers and setting up the Student Campus according to European standards are some priority components offered by the University administration for the training and comfort of medical students. "You should know that here, at home, at Nicolae Testemitanu University, you have access to quality studies. Appreciate and keep your work environment clean and organized for this will be your home until you complete your studies," emphasized the vice-rector, wishing the students success in learning the secrets of medicine.
Student Marișa Svistun addressed a message of gratitude to the University administration for the accommodation in very good living conditions that will stimulate the medical students to learn even better.
For his part, student Marin Gălușcă, head of Hostel no. 1, stated that he was convinced that "the living conditions created for students are at the level of those provided by foreign universities. Surely this fact will motivate students to achieve high academic results and become good specialists in the field of medicine".
More than 50 million lei were allocated from the institution's budget for the reconstruction of the Hostel.
The event was attended by the tenants - students from the first and second year of the Medicine integrated study program, deans, vice deans and professors, who came to enjoy together the new home of the medical students.
Currently, Hostel no. 2 is undergoing overhaul.
