”ESU Boot Camp Moldova 2025”: a premiere in urology residents training

The Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy held, for the first time, a professional training event with the generic name "ESU Boot Camp Moldova 2025". The training program was organized for first-year resident doctors, specializing in Urology, and was based on the Hands-on training method. The lecture was delivered by Dragos Laurian Bogdan, consultant urologist at Cambridge University Hospital, United Kingdom, and Sérgio Pereira, urologist at Santa Maria Hospital, North Lisbon Hospital Center, Portugal.
At the inauguration, Emil Ceban, University rector and president of the Society of Urologists of the Republic of Moldova, has noted that resident doctors have the opportunity to take part in the Boot Camp, supported by two international experts from the European School of Urology. "We offer you the possibility to have your first experience in endourology - top treatment of diseases in the respective field. The course includes seemingly simple manipulations, but which are basic in your activity".
Director of Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital (SCR) Andrei Uncuta mentioned the relevance of the training: "It is an important event, including for SCR, because it tests our capabilities and comes with clear benchmarks for additional investment, in order to fulfill the common mission of training young specialists and to perform a quality medical act."
For his part, Head of the Department of Urology and Surgical Nephrology Adrian Tanase congratulated the resident doctors for this opportunity, at the beginning of their professional journey, to participate in a major training event for the country and to learn from international experts.
According to Dragos Laurian Bogdan, "ESU Boot Camp is a program launched by the European Association of Urology, for the first time in Moldova, but which will have continuity. "We will also try to organize the first endourology congress in the Republic of Moldova, with theoretical lectures and practical classes, starting with workshops, live operations, Hands-on training, advanced courses, etc.," the specialist specified.
According to Associate Professor Andrei Galescu, head of the Urology Unit at the SCR, secretary of the Society of Urologists of the Republic of Moldova, endourology currently has indications in the treatment of 90% of urological pathologies, and in this way, they try to keep up with contemporary trends.
Associate Professor Andrei Bradu stated that the Department's representatives focused on training resident physicians in endourology, because it was a field of the future, and learning endourological techniques could bring benefits to everyone and, finally, to the patient.
Teodor Arap, one of the resident physicians participating in the training activity, emphasized the importance of the experience gained during the training, noting that, in addition to the knowledge transmitted by foreign professors, he had the privilege of learning from international specialists, who brought with them new and valuable expertise.
The event was organized by the European Association of Urology, in partnership with Nicolae Testemitanu University, the Society of Urologists of the Republic of Moldova and Timofei Mosneaga Republican Clinical Hospital.
