The 2025 Student Laureates Gala brought together the academic community to celebrate the achievements of future healthcare professionals who excel through academic achievements, scientific results and active participation in various extracurricular activities. The event was organized in collaboration with the Moldovan Medical Students and Residents Association on December 18. In total, 39 students were appreciated in six categories: Academic and Extracurricular Performance, Organizational Skills, Sports, Volunteering, Nicolae Testemitanu University Promoter and Trade Unions.
The ceremony was inaugurated by First Vice-Rector Olga Cernetchi, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Academic Management, who mentioned the most important achievements of the University in this anniversary year - 80 years since its founding.
"You have demonstrated that you are not simple students, but future professionals aware of your choice. You are the ones who chose to learn, when others are resting, to get involved when it would have been more convenient to stay outside and work for remarkable results, which is not easy. You have demonstrated civic responsibility, a spirit of initiative and participation in cultural, sports and volunteer activities, promoting a healthy lifestyle and human values - activities supported by the Association of Medical Students and Residents, an important partner of the University", said the first vice-rector, recalling that this year, Nicolae Testemitanu University students obtained 10 national merit scholarships, as well as dozens of nominal university scholarships.
An important aspect emphasized by Professor Olga Cernetchi concerned academic integrity: "In medicine, competence without integrity is insufficient, and knowledge without honesty loses its value. Integrity means respect for the truth, for the patient, for colleagues and for one's own conscience. We want to educate not only well-trained specialists, but also integrity professionals, worthy of society's trust."
The event was also attended by the Minister of Health of the Republic of Moldova, Professor Emil Ceban, who awarded prizes to young people with the best organizational skills. The Minister has noted that the students of our university are part of an elite academic community, with well-trained teaching staff, good study conditions and everything necessary to educate very good doctors. "The health system needs major changes, and digitalization is one of the important directions, which can be achieved together with the new generations - with you, future doctors and pharmacists. It takes strength, courage and vision to develop the health system so that it brings hope and joy to people," the official pointed out.
