The 19th edition of the Conference of students, resident doctors and young researchers in anesthesiology and intensive care In Memoriam Professor Valeriu Ghereg took place on February 23, 2024 at Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova. The event was organized by Valeriu Ghereg Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology no. 1 in partnership with the Society of Anesthesiology and Reanimation from the Republic of Moldova.
In his opening statement, rector Emil Ceban mentioned that the scientific event has become a beautiful tradition, which serves as an example for other subjects. "Professor Valeriu Ghereg's contribution to the development of the specialty, the service and the community of anesthesiology and intensive care, of the Department that bears his name with dignity, is invaluable. The illustrious scholar left behind a strong and consolidated school of anesthesiologists-reanimatologists with valuable academic and research traditions that develop his ideas and honor his memory. The conference also represents a favorable platform for presenting scientific results, launching innovative ideas and identifying common interests for discussions and debates. The international dimension of the event opens up new opportunities for the expansion of scientific cooperation", pointed out Professor Ceban.
Serghei Sandru, head of Valeriu Ghereg Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology no. 1, emphasized the significance of the event - a tribute to the distinguished professor Ghereg paid by colleagues and disciples, while for students and resident doctors it is an opportunity to present their scientific works, to accumulate experience both in carrying out research, as well as in its demonstration.
The guest of honor at the conference was Gabriel Gurman, Emeritus Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev from Israel, a colleague of Professor Ghereg, who stated that the renowned anesthesiologist was thirsty for knowledge and eager to produce something new in the field. "In a big country it is difficult to find one personality who would have established a domain. Whereas in a smaller country, it takes only one person to understand the need to create a new specialty and find the strength, energy and will power to turn his idea into reality", said Professor Gurman.
During the event, Professor Gurman, as author, donated 150 copies of Anesthesia and Intensive Care: A Clinical Guide for Beginning AIC Students and Residents to our university.
