Scientific and practical innovations in contemporary stomatology

The 21st edition of the National Congress with international participation of the Association of Dentists from the Republic of Moldova was held on November 1 and 2, 2024 at Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The event with the generic name "Scientific and practical innovations in contemporary stomatology" was a platform for specialists in the field to exchange best practices and debate the main aspects of their daily practice. At the same time, the forum gave students, resident doctors and doctoral students the opportunity to learn from the experience of the best professionals and explore new development directions of modern stomatology.
President of the Congress Oleg Solomon, dean of the Faculty of Stomatology of Nicolae Testemitanu University, highlighted the fact that the event aimed, since the first editions, starting in 1947, to develop dentistry in the Republic of Moldova, to promote oral health and increase the prestige of dentists. "The Association of Dentists continues the tradition, established back in 1988, of organizing the National Congress of Dentists, which recently became an exceptional scientific event, where the newest discoveries in dental science and practice from the country and from abroad are presented. Apart from being a major scientific forum, the Association of Dentists is an extremely significant platform for the adoption of national decisions and strategies with a major impact on the development of the dental field", said Oleg Solomon. The President emphasized the fact that the Association of Dentists from the Republic of Moldova became a member of the World Dental Federation (WDF) on September 13, 2014 and of the WDF European Regional Organization in 2024.
For his part, Adrian Belii, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Social Protection, Health and Family, noted that thanks to the progress of local dentistry in the academic, scientific and practical areas, in a short time there was an evolution in terms of new technologies and modern treatment methods. The listed progress is also due to the opening of the Republic of Moldova to international partners.
Rector of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Professor Emil Ceban, emphasized that the responsibility assigned to the University in the training of highly competent specialists, including in dentistry, increased essentially due to the strategic objective of integration into the European educational and research space. This fact generates new demands as regards the quality of the didactic and scientific process, the technical-material and informational resources.
In the opinion of the Honorary President of the Congress, University Professor Valeriu Burlacu, the given event offers new ideas and solutions for specialists in the field, which are meant to contribute to the prosperity of dentistry in Moldova.
One of the guests of honor of the Congress - Rodica Luca, professor at the Department of Pedodontics, Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Bucharest, Romania, mentioned that she had been participating in the congresses organized by the Faculty of Stomatology of our university since 1992.
According to Irina Ciochina, a fifth-year student at the Faculty of Stomatology, the event represents an opportunity for collaboration that transcends borders and unites professional communities from Romania, Greece, Sweden, Bulgaria, Israel and Ukraine, strengthening valuable ties and facilitating the exchange of knowledge that will contribute to the development of dentistry at the international level.
Current topics in the field of dentistry were addressed at the forum, such as ulcerative diseases of the oral mucosa, modern diagnostic and treatment options for temporomandibular disorders, iTOP and behavioral change in oral health, implantology in the aesthetic zone, vascular anomalies at the level of the cephalic extremity in children, cells stem in periodontology, technological convergence: total prostheses from the perspective of conventional and modern methods, the Rock-Solid concept in the rehabilitation of the totally edentulous patient, oral health and quality of life in elderly patients, digital implantology in GBR, etc.
The program also included a workshop entitled "Use of the Versah Drills system in osteodensification", moderated by Associate Professor Andrei Mostovei. Likewise, an exhibition hall with the latest equipment and products in the field of dental medicine was organized during the Congress.
The congress was organized in partnership with the Faculty of Stomatology of Nicolae Testemitanu University. The date of the next edition has been set for October 30 – November 1, 2025.
