Dentists throughout the country may have access to the latest digital diagnostic methods with the help of intraoral scanners. In this sense, Ilarion Postolachi Orthopedic Dentistry Department within the Faculty of Stomatology, Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, launched a new continuing medical education course entitled "Digital technologies in orthopedic dentistry".
The course was launched on February 20, 2023, and brought together dentists from Chisinau, Briceni and Ungheni. For two weeks, dentists were familiarized with the latest technologies and diagnostic methods by means of dental arch scanning. In this context, the representatives of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry have organized daily workshops, on the premises of the Municipal Dental Center in Chisinau, the students being trained on the operation of intraoral scanners.
Dean of the Stomatology Faculty Oleg Solomon, head of Ilarion Postolachi Department of Orthopedic Dentistry, mentioned at the opening of the course that the training activity supports dentists and facilitates their work. Intraoral scanners are among the most useful dental equipment items right now, and every dental practice should have one. A varied range of models, different in price and complexity, was presented during the course. Some are powered directly from the outlet, others from the computer to which they are connected, some require special software, others have their own software or even computer. Accordingly, the dentist can appreciate different scanning forms and devices and make the right choice for the dental office.
"The advantage of owning one of these scanners is that the dentist can scan the dental arches himself, after which, with a single click, the file is sent to the dental technician. So, the human factor is excluded in the transmission of dental impressions whenever it is necessary. At the same time, these devices work with great precision and accuracy, the dental models being executed perfectly", pointed out Associate Professor Oleg Solomon.
The workshops on the presentation of different types of intraoral scanners available in our country are moderated by university assistant Vasile Rusu, head of studies at Ilarion Postolachi Department of Orthopedic Dentistry.
