On January 26, India’s Republic Day was marked by the largest community of international students originating from this country at Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova.

The event took place at the University Sociocultural Complex and began with the hoisting of the Indian state flag by Nicolae Testemitanu University rector, Professor Emil Ceban, together with Jai Saini, a V-year student at the Faculty of Medicine no. 2, the leader of Indian students at our university, and continued with the singing of the national anthem by the students participating in the ceremony.

Dressed in national costume, Indian medical students celebrated this holiday with an artistic entertainment program designed to showcase history and culture through dance, song, traditional cuisine, and henna tattooing.

Rector Emil Ceban congratulated the young people on Republic Day - one of their national holidays, which marks their identity as a people and a country. On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India was adopted, the country being proclaimed a sovereign and democratic republic.

In this context, Professor Ceban pointed out some milestones from the international collaboration with the state of India, which began in 2000, when the first Indian citizen was enrolled to study at our university. At first, students were mainly recruited from the northern part of the country, later the fruitful collaboration with institutions from the southern region, especially with the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, was extended. "Our university provides all the necessary support to international students for integration into the university community and society in general, respecting their national culture and traditions," said Rector Ceban.
